  15. <p>     Robert Maxwell may be resting in peace in an Israeli
  16. cemetery, but the rumors about how he met his demise refuse to
  17. die down. Spanish investigators contend that Maxwell suffered a
  18. heart attack, but last week's revelations that $767 million
  19. mysteriously disappeared from a pair of Maxwell operations
  20. during the months leading up to his death have revived the
  21. speculation. There are three schools of tabloid-style musings:
  22. </p>
  23. <p>-- MAXWELL KILLED HIMSELF! One version holds that Maxwell
  24. took his life knowing the financial dam was about to burst. The
  25. Daily Express in London reports that Maxwell seemed agitated and
  26. depressed during his "last supper." A variation is that he was
  27. suffering from a fatal disease, supported in one tabloid by
  28. Spanish doctors.
  29. </p>
  30. <p>-- MAXWELL'S ALIVE! The Sun, a British tabloid, suggests
  31. that he might be hiding in South America while some other large
  32. chap rests in Jerusalem's Mount of Olives. The Guardian states,
  33. "The Spanish authorities have no evidence other than the word
  34. of his family that the body pulled from the sea...was that
  35. of Mr. Maxwell."
  36. </p>
  37. <p>-- MAXWELL WAS KILLED! A rumor among cynical Israeli
  38. journalists is that Maxwell was an agent for the Mossad,
  39. Israel's spy agency. Thus Israel's enemies rubbed him out. Or
  40. was it that the Mossad executed Captain Bob to prevent him from
  41. exposing secrets? Or did he launder millions from secret arms
  42. sales to Iran and get killed "to shut him up." Then there's the
  43. one that Maxwell was hammered by New York Mafia hit men angry
  44. about layoffs at the Daily News. Or maybe...
